Quest For Control of the Washington State Senate: Battle for the 42nd District

On Wednesday, September 17th (a week earlier than our usual meeting date due to a scheduling conflict) City Club presents a candidate forum with State Senator Doug Ericksen and challenger Seth Fleetwood. After brief introductory remarks, they will respond to questions from our moderator and members about important local and statewide issues as they vie for the pivotal 42nd District seat in the battle for control of the State Senate.

Candidates:

Doug Ericksen was elected in 2010 to the state Senate for the 42nd district. He had previously served six terms as a member of the state House of Representatives, following his election in 1998. Doug received his undergraduate degree in government from Cornell University and a Masters degree from Western Washington University.

Seth Fleetwood is an attorney with a private practice in Bellingham. In 2001 he was elected to the Whatcom County Council, where he served two four-year terms. In 2009 he won election to the Bellingham City Council at-large position and was re-elected to a second two-year term in 2011. Seth’s undergraduate degree in political science is from the University of Washington, and he received a law degree from Willamette University.
