Volunteer
Bellingham City Club is a volunteer-run organization. There are opportunities for City Club members to help in a variety of ways, whether they serve on the Board or not.
Meeting Support
Volunteers are needed at our monthly meetings to check in ticketholders, greet attendees, assist the Treasurer with payments, assist with badges, set up for presentations, and help with other setup and cleanup tasks. If you have an interest in providing meeting support, please drop us a note at .
Board of Directors
Serving on the Board of Directors of Bellingham City Club means taking an active leadership role in a respected, non‑partisan civic organization. Board members help uphold and advance the Club’s mission. Board members are elected at the Club’s annual meeting in May and may serve up to three two‑year terms. They are volunteers who govern the City Club and represent the interests of the broader membership. The Board meets monthly—typically on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 a.m., either in person or via Zoom. Consistent participation is part of the commitment. They may chair or participate on a Board committee.
The Board oversees programs, organizational direction, and adherence to the Club’s stated objectives, which are to provide a forum for discussion and to analyze community issues with care and intention. We work to discover common ground and strengthen our community and opportunities to network with others. Above all, we strive to foster constructive problem solving and encourage informed citizenship.
Committees
The Program Committee is responsible for developing City Club programs. Members use community and professional connections and research to develop program ideas, bringing a depth and breadth of experience, background and education to the program selection process. They recruit speakers that represent well-grounded, articulate and diverse views on issues important to the community. Program ideas come from various sources, including community and member input and undergo lively debate and vetting. Member feedback on programs is critical to the committee’s work.
Committee members are appointed based on the ability to:
- Work well with others;
- Leave personal or political agendas at the door;
- Actively listen;
- Consider and respect the views of others;
- Bring new idea to the table, and
- Laugh at oneself.
The Membership Committee meets as needed to develop recommended policies related to membership in the Bellingham City Club and works closely with the Treasurer and the Public Relations Committee. The Chair is responsible for maintaining the membership database, managing meeting arrangements (not including program arrangements}, and coordinating the work of volunteers who assist meeting attendees.
The Public Relations Committee members work on a variety of tasks to promote the City Club and its activities.
We also have an Executive Committee consisting of the President, Treasurer and Past President.
Additional ad hoc committees may be formed that include Board and other volunteer participants.
