What Just Happened? What the Election Results Mean to Our Country and our Region

We’ve come to the end of a seemingly endless election campaign. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent on ads and get-out-the-vote efforts. Now the people of an increasingly polarized country have spoken. But what have they really said and what does their verdict really mean—to our nation and our region?

On Nov. 28, three insightful panelists will come to the City Club meeting to discuss the election results and explore, among other issues: What the initiative and referendum results in Washington and elsewhere say about our changing society; the role of money in politics; the outlook for the Supreme Court; what the election means for health care policy; and the coming year in Olympia and Washington, D.C.

On the panel will be Floyd McKay, journalism professor emeritus at Western Washington University and a contributor to Crosscut; Cathy Allen, a political consultant who heads The Connections Group and who appears frequently on KCTS Connect; and Erin McCallum, a consultant and president of Enterprise Washington, whose mission is to recruit, train and elect business-minded legislators. Moderating will be City Club board member Dean Wright, a media consultant who is president of Connell Wright Media and formerly global ethics and standards editor for Thomson Reuters.
